Race: St George Marathon (26.2 Miles) 03:41:34
Running MilesSwimming YardsBike Miles
26.200.000.00

Wow, what a day, I didn't know how I was going to run the race, and with just TOU 2 weeks ago, and I struggled at the end of that race, how should I run? At least I was running with Kris and I could hold her hand on the bus. The rain was fun, it was warm at least, but it was just going to be a wet day. I think that helped in a way because my core didn't overheat. Even though it was wet, I keep hydrating. I started out with the 3:30 balloons and it felt good, I walked every mile and I would just try and catchup or at least keep the balloons in site. It lasted though around mile 16. Then my goal was to just stay ahead of the 3:40 balloons. My quads started hurting around 13-14, I had been stretching when I walked and that helped, but I needed to increase the stretching after mile 18. I did cheat, I didn't always walk the 45 seconds, I was anxious to keep going. Then, I started seeing friends and fellow BBKer's passing me, Jody, Kelly, Scott all within the last 2 miles. My Garmin had stopped working around mile 19 so I didn't know my time. I got to the 25.2 mark and a couple were comparing there times.  The time was around 3:30, I was going to make my goal of 3:45. I actually hoped I could make it under 3:40, but that was not to be, it just hurt to much. The 3:40 balloon finally passed me on the last turn and final 1/4 mile. I couldn't even keep up with him.  But, I felt great at the end, I ran a hard race and I met a goal I had, though it wasn't my fastest STG, it was 35 minutes faster than last year. It was fun to see everyone at the end, you had all run great races and met so many of your goals. I am so proud of you all and greatful for your friendships and I'm so glad to run with you. The only disappointment of the day was when Kris didn't meet her goal, but she ran a hard race, this year she has run a 4:10 Boston, 4:08 TOU and now a 4:10 STG. She was maybe a little tired from TOU.  But, we have already figured out new goals and methods for her to met her goals. Sorry for the novel, but you all have gotten me started.

Congratulations!!! You were so tough, especially after running TOU two weeks ago!

From Cheryl on Sun, Oct 05, 2008 at 20:16:52

Dean, great race, what a year you've had. How are you going to match or top it next year?

Tell Kris that matching her time from last year was the equivalent of beating her time from last year because the weather was so much worse this time. If it had been what it was like last year, I bet she would have easily been under 4:05. So she should feel like she has improved this year, because she definitely has.

From Razmatazz on Sun, Oct 05, 2008 at 23:36:14

Way to hang in there and qualify Dean! Very impressive time after running just 2 weeks ago.

Kris, congratulations on getting 5th in your division at TOU. I KNOW you will get your goal time again!

From Cheris on Tue, Oct 07, 2008 at 23:21:25

Hey Iron Man! I am so glad you are on the blog! Now we can tell you that YOUR legs are like jello, without your being able to hit us. HA! They sure are fast, though, and able to recover pretty well for being able to run another marathon that fast! I think you and Kris are the true die-hards (or the crazy people) along with Eric. I agree with Cheryl, I think minus the weather Kris would have been under 4:05. Way to go, both of you!

From Kelli on Wed, Oct 08, 2008 at 13:44:16

Ah, found ya! Great job on the run to both of you! Thanks for the surprising HI from a voice I did not expect to hear, it gave me a push!

And THANKS for being so nice to my little Emma yesterday. I hate having to bring her everywhere I go, but she is pretty good. She told Scott all about the guy who wanted his nails painted even though he was "a boy" and then she laughed and laughed and said, "I like him. Can I go to his house?" So, do you want her???

First time back after St George, I felt tired, 13 folks were there and they like fast. Stopped several times just to stretch out. It was good to be in the cold again.

What a lazy sack, I felt a lot better than on Tues, but I'm still stretching things out, legs are still a little sore, I need to watch the ankle, but tons of fun with the group, everyone just keeps on going while I beg for a rest. I will just have to do my own little walks. Starting on Sat. the 17th I'm having a little contest with my son Jeff who is in Colorado, we are going to see who can lose the most weight by Dec 15th, two months. My doctor ( why should I believe him?) says I need to lose 10lbs or go on the meds. So its off to the races. Anyone interested, just weigh yourself and we can keep tabs on each other. Well I need to go eat my last ice cream fudge sunday, later gater. OOPS this was run on Thurday the 16th.

For crying out loud Dean, if you loose 10 pounds you would blow away. Anyways, I need to loose 10 myself so if your interested lets keep each other honest and loose the 10. War Ironman!

From Kelli on Sat, Oct 18, 2008 at 22:03:31

I needed to lose 6, but I have pigged out for the last two weeks and now it is up to 9, beyond ridiculous. I think I am actually sick of ice cream!

I will race you to the finish on that one, too!

I wussed out on running Sat. so I went biking, the weather was beautiful, the was a pretty good south wind which was no fun. You really notice it on the bike not so much on the run. Averaged around 17 MPH, I could tell it has been a good month or more since I have been on the bike, a little stiff, but it still felt good. It looks like I have some takers on the weigh loss, so its a go, weigh yourself keep track and we are off to the races, or at least Painters. Winner gets something we will make it worth while.

Dean, I am down about two this week although I am about to the plateau that is hard to crack. I know if I have to be accountable to an Ironman Triathlete that bikes to Utah County for fun that I need to take it seriously. Good luck to the both of us.

I had to get on the bike the weather is so nice, I have a little 10.8 trek that goes up to the Oquirr Mountain Temple and down 98 south, that's the down hill I try to keep up with the cars, its a fun challenge. 32 min. This is my base line.

This was  a new route down 3200 West to 11400 back up to 9435S to 2200 West back up to 10000 then back to the church. I could't stay with the lead pack after 2 miles I feel back with the newbies,  Britta, and Tina it felt good and we still keep up a good pace.

In the evening it was just so nice, I had to go out again, on the bike, just a took a little longer than the night before 33 min. It was good and fun, very little wind.

I had to get up early with other commitments, started at 6:30 went 9 miles on the new trail south of 9800 South, its nice. I felt good, went slow, just steady. I have also been using the Strassburg sock and it really seams to help.

Sorry I missed you on saturday although I understand you had some important commitments. What a nice day it was, couldn't ask for better running weather. The group ran that portion of the new trail about two weeks ago. It sure is nice. Can't wait until it is all connected.

How is the weight-loss coming? I am down 2 in two-weeks.

As you may notice I don't care that I didn't make 7.00 miles. It was a good run, we are still just going along and that's plenty fine with me. We are still recovering from St George. Look out next week we will be flying the month will be over.

We were a little late today, I guess it will help to read the entire email, and we never go to the same spot twice in a week.  It was a little cooler near the river.  But, it felt good to run, Michelle kept up the pace so we still did a 8:41 pace. Slow down, we are recovering. Last night I rode my bike at night for the last time this year, with the time change on Sunday it will be dark when I get home and its going to get colder, the weather has been beautiful. Longer run on Saturday.

Well, I went and did it, if I'm going to do Triathlons I need a bike so I got the T3 Fezzari for the place in Orem, I had the chance to do my temple course with a south headwind and I shaved 1 mph off my course record  20.3 mph, we will she what we can do once I figure things out.

Ran with Kris today, we just wanted to put some miles together. We ran the river trail back and forth. It was nice weather like 57 degrees. We were slow but steady, not many people on the trail at like 7:30 in the AM. Went for the bike ride in the afternoon with Ryan and his new bike a CR2 Fore from Fezzari. He is excited that he can now start riding.

We went to Kelli and Scott's, house, and then we went to the hills, wow, that was some run, it was hard enough to walk a couple of times, at least on the big hills. And Scott loves the hills, he was far out in the lead. He loved to climp the hills, and Kelli was really nice to hang with my wife. Thank you both for a nice run on the hills.

Wow, that was a fun time, I loved the race. It was really fun, I had tons of fun taking pictures and things. I was proud of myself, cause I got everyone in a frame. Beautiful day for a race. I'm gl;ad I went slow at the beginning, because it is quite the downhill. I had to run hard at the end to catch Mindy and I was only going around 8:00 miles. What a slow boy. But it was tons of fun with the girls.

Running MilesSwimming YardsBike Miles

I didn't want to go that far but the pressure was just to intense. 8 miles would have been great. My feet have been sore all day. I will need to wear the Strassburg sock tonight for sure. It was also nice to have Eric set up the run place and not show up for a while, he made the excuse of taking his wife to the airport. I think he just slept in a little to long. I'm showing my total miles because I earned every single tenth.

I also had the chance to go OVER the TOP with 6 cookies from Rachel. Good luck to her and her new store. (across the street from Cafe Rio in SJ)
